How we organise ourselves
My BIS staff member portrait

Lines of inquiry:
▪The expressive qualities of colour
▪Unity and shape in artwork
▪Use of elements and principles of art to show
connections
We viewed lots of examples of self-portraits and practised by
creating our own self-portraits first.
We had to make sure the eyes were in the centre of the face, and the
shape of the mouth and ears was realistic.
We viewed more examples of portraits painted by different artists at
different times and we discussed the features of the people who were
portrayed. Then we created our portraits,
each showing a different member of staff at BIS. After our portraits were finished we thought
about the resources used by each staff member and the people they work
with. We found photos of these resources
in magazines, or drew them ourselves.
Many of us were very happy with the colours we used for our
portraits, or the way we drew the face and the hair. Some of us found it challenging to draw the
eyes and the mouth. What do you think? We
hope you like our portraits!
Grade 1 agreed on the following criteria for a successful portrait:
Does my
portrait clearly show my community member?
|
Is my use
of colour interesting?
|
Are the
shapes clear?
|
Is
everything inside the head clear?
|
Do our
portraits show unity in our organisation?
