We use and respond to colour and shape
in different ways.

How we respond to colour and shape in abstract and non-abstract
paintings (interpretation)
With our eyes closed we felt lots of different
fruit and vegetables and guessed what they were. We used our knowledge of shape and texture to
help us, using words like round, smooth and rough. We thought very
carefully about the properties of fruit and vegetables, focusing on colour,
shape and texture. We used paint and
different forks, textures stamps and markers to create different textures. Then we decided which fruit or vegetables we
wanted in our crates. We had to choose
our painted paper carefully – there was a lot to choose from because we had
made so much! Experimenting with colours
and textures while making painted paper was really fun! We drew outlines in pencil on the back of the
painted paper; then cut out our vegetable or fruit shapes and arranged them in
a ‘crate’ before gluing then on the piece of paper. How many different fruits and vegetables can
you see?
Transdisciplinary
skills we used:
Thinking skills – Evaluation: Making decisions about shape, colour and texture
|
Social skills – Cooperating: Sharing our painted paper that we had made
together
|
Self-
management skills – fine motor skills: Showing
control over outlining, cutting & gluing
|
Self-
management skills – Spatial awareness: Thinking about the position of the fruit /
vegetables
|
Research skills – Observing: Using our senses to notice details about fruit and
vegetables
